“The leather plays a crucial role in the production of sustainable footwear in Portugal. The country’s footwear industry boasts a long tradition of quality and craftsmanship, and the use of leather from responsible and sustainable sources contributes to maintaining this reputation. High-quality leather not only provides durability to shoes but also represents a more environmentally friendly alternative compared to other materials, especially synthetic ones. Furthermore, the footwear sector in Portugal is increasingly committed to sustainable practices throughout the production chain, from the tanning process to minimizing material waste.
In this regard, the CTCP organized a webinar titled “Contribution of Leather to Sustainable Footwear” on November 7th. The event addressed the leather production process, highlighting phases with potential for sustainable development and showcasing the contribution of the BioShoes4All project to the industry. This was followed by a presentation of some promising results related to new products and processes. Finally, the speaker briefly analyzed the importance of the current project results for the footwear industry, emphasizing the relevance of new procedural technologies.”
