Instituto Politécnico de Bragança (IPB) is a Superior Education public institution, founded in 1983, whose mission is to provide quality superior education, promoting Technological Investigation and Development, namely in cooperation with the industrial community and providing for regional development and national development, by applying technical, technological and scientific skills. IPB develops important work with Scientific Investigation and Technological Development, counting on several investigation units integrated into the grid of investigation FCT centres. CIMO is an I&D excellence unit from FCT headed by the Institutos Politécnicos de Bragança. CIMO performs an investigation on mountain systems following an inter and multidisciplinary strategy that goes from Nature (raw materials, natural resources, biodiversity, agriculture, forest management) to Products (food and biologically-based materials).

CIMO facilities include Laboratories of Food Technology, Chemical Engineering (including areas such as Materials), Microbiology, Ecology, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, and Soils; experimental farms; laboratories at pilot scales available at Brigantia EcoPark; and structures of support to the administrative, financial, scientific and technological management.
