LCR – Biological-based Thermoplastics

LCR – Luz Costa & Rodrigues is a family-owned company that began its operations nearly 60 years ago, serving as an inspiring example of innovation and adaptation over time. Founded in 1965, the company started as a sawmill but was able to navigate market changes and transform itself into a reference in the manufacturing of profiles and seals.

The diversification of its product range led LCR to develop solutions for the automotive and healthcare industries in 1994, and to respond to the needs of the construction sector in 1996 with rigid profiles.

More recently, the company decided to move downstream in its value chain by acquiring a new manufacturing unit and began producing thermoplastic materials under a new brand, COBLEX, aiming to expand into new industries. It was at this point that LCR/COBLEX expanded into the footwear industry, manufacturing PVC and TR. Today, 90% of the company’s turnover is dedicated to this sector, reflecting its commitment and specialization.

In the context of the BioShoes4All project, LCR/COBLEX is innovating with the development of a biological-based PVC line, achieving more than 95% biological base in its products. Currently in the testing phase, these products have shown promising results, and the company is confident they will soon be available on the market. At the same time, LCR/COBLEX is expanding its line of recycled materials, already marketing PVC with 30% recycled content, with the ambition to increase this percentage even further.
